On your first visit your osteopath will take a full medical history and ask you questions about your lifestyle, such as what you do for work and what leisure activities you enjoy. A physical examination will then be carried out. Normally you’ll be asked to perform a simple series of movements so that the mobility of your body can be evaluated. For this you may be asked to undress to your underwear, so please bear this in mind and wear something you feel comfortable in.

Your osteopath will then use their hands to investigate the underlying causes of your pain. Using a developed sense of touch, any points of weakness, excess strain, postural imbalance or specific injury will be identified.
Afterwards you will be given a prognosis and suggested treatment plan. Your osteopath may also suggest exercises that you can do at home that will help speed up the natural healing process.

At Bristol Osteopaths we are keen to treat your symptoms to get you pain-free, but also to tackle the underlying cause of the problem to prevent recurrence. If you would like to know if you could benefit from osteopathy, please contact us and one of our osteopaths will be happy to talk to you.
